Maria Menounos

While caring for her mother, suffering from stage 4 cancer of the brain, Maria found out she was facing an illness in her own. In February 2014 Menounos started experiencing troubling symptoms. In an exclusive story of PEOPLE Menounos, she reveals she was suffering from headaches and lightheadedness on sets. My speech had become difficult to understand, and I also had difficult getting the teleprompter to understand. An MRI revealed Menounos to be suffering from a massive meningioma brain tumour which had grown up to the size as a golf ball. The tumour was pressing her facial nerves. Menounos scheduled an appointment to see her mother's doctor renowned surgeon Dr. Keith L. Black The surgery was scheduled for June 8-her 39th birthday. "He said, 'I'm 98 percent certain it's normal, but we won't know until we're there and see what happens,'" she says. After the lengthy surgery that took about seven hours the surgeon Dr. Black was able to take out 99.9 per cent of the cancer. The result was not cancerous. "He said there's a six to seven percent chance that we'll see it come back," she says. It's a good thing I can consider these odds any day of the week. Now back at home after six days in the hospital Menounos is recovering and spending the time she can with her mom Litsa who's latest MRI proves her cancer is stable. Maria Maria Maria
